Technical Documentation Writer

Summary

Seeking talented, self-motivated individual to develop documentation for use by end-users, partners and staff of our various desktop and on-line software applications. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively. Candidate will work with engineering, testing, marketing, and support teams to facilitate the development of online as well as printed documentation. Candidate may also be involved in RFP responses.

Primary Duties
  • Review existing documentation and develop, then implement, a plan to generate a consistent collection of documentation for our desktop and web-based systems
  • Write clear, concise procedures following company standards based on verbal instructions, draft versions of documents and handwritten notes
  • Review various documentation software packages and make recommendations for the acquisition of a new product
  • Author and generate internal and external documentation (paper and electronic) including
  • User Manuals
  • Quick Guides
  • Application Notes
  • Release Notes
  • Interface with engineering and support teams for content and issues encountered
  • Develop a requisite understanding of current state of documented knowledge, and identify, prioritize and fill gaps in systematized knowledge
  • Design an optimized tool set approach to knowledge management
  • Create and commit to plan with milestones to achieve high priority documentation
  • Make requested updates to procedures as needed and maintain a record of all corrections and revisions to documentation
Preferred Experience and Education
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong Technical Acumen specifically with software applications
  • Experience using help publishing software (MadCap Flare, Framemaker, RoboHelp, etc.)
  • 5+ years’ experience in writing clear and concise procedural documentation for a technical audience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to comprehend, assimilate and document numerous software applications, hardware functionality and software/hardware integration independently
  • Advanced understanding of technical writing conventions
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a constantly changing environment
  • Technical writing certification a plus
  • Basic knowledge of HTML language a plus
  • Basic knowledge of a programming language such SQL a plus
