The Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESign Act) is a federal law passed by Congress on June 30, 2000. Adopted by all 50 states, it ensures the validity and legality of electronic signatures.  The ESign Act provides guidelines that standardize electronic signature rules and regulations across the country. Electronic signatures that comply with ESIGN guidelines are given the same legal weight as handwritten signatures. 

Ten years later, Congress announced June 30 as National ESIGN Day. Interware Development acknowledges the holiday as a day to reflect on how much the ESIGN Act has enhanced modern business practices.  As dedicated suppliers of innovative software to local government since 1990, Interware is determined to continue to bring these practices to local government. This act is more important today than ever as we all find new ways, during this pandemic, to serve the citizens of our communities in the most efficient and effective manner while always complying with the law. 

In 2018 Interware Development started providing ESign compliant electronic signatures to signed documents at the municipal offices and vow to continue to add more ESign compliant products. Electronic signatures provide a more efficient workflow for all parties, than the traditional pen and paper approach. Interware Development’s software provides more than 100 towns and cities in the State of New Hampshire the ability to securely facilitate their transactions with electronic signatures on vehicle registrations and CTAs, exponentially increasing convenience for their customers, and expediting the registration process.

Interware Development is proud of the strides that we have made and continue to make in innovative technology over the past decades, including electronic signatures, online registration renewal requests, registration and driver’s license scanning technology, and email vehicle and dog reminder notices. We continue to build our online services, EB2Gov, which launched in April of 2004 with E-Reg, Vehicle Registration Renewal Requests.   

National ESIGN Day is a reminder of how far electronic signature technology has come and an indicator that this technology should be readily available and adopted as the standard for all businesses, especially municipal government.
